Home is where the heart is. A place we feel good and safe. In terms of the food we eat, choosing home-grown ingredients from producers in the vicinity makes a positive impact on our communities. That’s why we source fresh, seasonal ingredient from regional partners for our school and day care meals. We also pay attention to short travel distances and choose suppliers with high ethical standards.
We want the animals we eat to lead happy lives in stables and on pastures. That’s why our suppliers comply with the Sodexo Welfare of Living Beings charter. They also follow good animal husbandry practices.
40 per cent of our fruit and vegetables are grown in Germany. Of this, 85 per cent are cultivated using sustainable farming practices. In this way, we support
regional producers, strengthen the local economy and actively contribute to climate protection.
Among the bakeries and grain suppliers we rely on are small and mid-sized German companies. This choice supports the local economy, protects the regional food culture, and keeps travel at a minimum.
When selecting meat and sausages, we devote our attention to good animal husbandry practices. 82 per cent of our beef, 90 per cent of our pork, and 74 per cent of our poultry are of German origin.
Excellent food is more than just tasty. It also upholds top-notch quality standards. As a result, food safety practices and certified workflows are our top priority. For instance, we pay attention to short holding times and constant temperature checks.
By keeping kitchens in the vicinity of schools, using regional suppliers and making few delivery stops, we help protect the environment. Additionally, we are in the process of transitioning our fleet to electric over the next few years.
Food tastes best when it reminds us of home. That’s why we regular feature regional specialities on the menu. Traditional dishes and local favourites naturally bring a smile to children’s faces.
Our employees are rooted in our communities. They personally know our partners, and are familiar with the area’s social and cultural makeup, as well as the region’s culinary history. They are delighted to interact with the children, often in a local dialect.

I enjoy being part of a team that serves children in and around Hanover a tasty, timely lunch. After a number of years at our school, I know many of the kids as well as what they like to eat.
