Our well-balanced meals for day care centres and schools are based on the quality standards and recommendations of the German Nutrition Society (DGE). Since 2013, many of our kitchens have had a dedicated menu line for both day care and school meals based on DGE quality standards. We give preference to seasonal and regional products from certified suppliers. At Sodexo, we define regional products as products from Germany that are seasonally available in Germany. We prefer to source our ingredients from growing regions where they can grow and ripen naturally.

In an average year, we source 40 per cent of our fruits and vegetables from Germany, 85 per cent of which are sustainably grown. In this way, we support regional producers, strengthen the local economy and actively contribute to climate protection.
When purchasing meat products, animal welfare is a primary concern. We source 82 per cent of our beef, 90 per cent of our pork and 74 per cent of our poultry from producers in Germany. Our suppliers must comply with the Sodexo Animal Welfare Charter and are actively involved in species-appropriate animal husbandry.
Our bakeries and grain suppliers include small and medium-sized German companies. We obtain all fresh-baked goods from nearby bakeries. This approach allows us to support local communities and regional food cultures and ensure short transport routes.
